CREDA SoCal-Sponsored Bill AB 2418 Signed by Governor Newsom

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 30, 2026

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – This morning, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed AB 2418, a CREDA SoCal co-sponsored bill that streamlines tenant improvements for certain qualifying non-residential building permits by requiring a local agency to provide applicants with the ability to contract with or employ a private plan-checking entity when excessive delays are triggered by the local agency, among other transparency measures.

“AB 2418 addresses a problem our Members deal with on many projects: permitting delays driven at times by some local agencies that unnecessarily delay projects and quietly drive up the cost of building in California,” said Tim Jemal, CEO, CREDA SoCal. “We thank Assemblymember González for championing this important bill and Governor Newsom for signing it into law."

"Thank you to our Members who engaged with us throughout this effort, including traveling to Sacramento in August to lobby in support of AB 2418. Thank you to our Sacramento Lobbyist, Adam Regele, for his advocacy throughout the legislative process, and a special thanks to TJ Bard, Senior Vice President of Surf Management Inc., who traveled to Sacramento to provide expert testimony in support. And finally, thank you to all our partners, including CBPA and BOMA Greater Los Angeles, for their collaboration in getting this bill passed and signed into law,” added Jemal.
